Meet The Rich was an action i prepared for the annual Hamburg Festival “wir sind woanders” where i was invited by

Galerie Oel-Früh

to create a performance and/or intervention, similar to “Under The Bridge” (Belgrade 2004)

So as i’m not from Hamburg, i made an internet research, which i started with the official pages, made by the City of Hamburg. Soon after watching that pages, i found that actually an performance like Under the Brigde, couldn’t be re-done in an easy way. There is so much difference between an wealthy prospering city like Hamburg, and the Capital of an country which disappeard and spent the last 15 yrs with strong experiences like War, Nationalism and the complete breakdown of the political system.

So after my research, where i identified Hamburg as the richest Town in Germany, i produced the call you can see on the flyer above. My idea was to aks people on the street, who in my eyes re-present the people living in Hamburg, to join me for a swim in the Atlantic. Well for you ones, who don’t know Hamburg, Atlanic is the most famous Hotel there. The popular german singer Udo Lindenberg lives there since 10 yrs.

So i had two days, asking people if they wanna join me, and i was very positive surprised the feedback i got. I presented them my idea, as an re-anactment of the great sea-battle between Bismark and Bin Laden.

The second intervention was, Oysters for Everyone, where with the help of Christopher from the Gallery Oel-Früh, we’ve found the most ugly spot in Town, a market place in Rothenburgsort, where we transfered upper class rituals, like eating Oysters, to that place. We didn’t expect, but we went there early in the morning, and we had to stay till 3 o’clock in the afternoon. People simply didn’t let us leave… we had very nice talks, were drinking champagne and eating oysters…
